BOTS

BOTS is a multi-player online fighting game with a lot of quick-paced action. There is a multi or single player story mode, player vs. player mode and player base attack mode.

The community in BOTS is great. There is a lot of higher leveled people who allow lower levels to tag along just for the heck of it, and most of the pros and higher levels are very nice and willing to help new comers out. The forums are also nice and inviting and I recommend them to all players since you can get help with whatever you need there. As far as the guild system goes, it’s not the most amazing thing but the game is still in Open Beta. By the looks of it, some things are reserved for the Full Release which will allow guilds to go above their current capacity of 10 players, which will improve the guild system a lot.

The chat system gets very annoying, since there are in game macros that people can easily spam. They also need to update the profanity filter a little bit, and make the chat boxes a little larger. You can play either by yourself or with up to 7 other people. In a way, this is good and bad. Sometimes I would like to play with more people, but at the same time 8 people is plenty. It also helps reduce lag. There is no marriage system in this game, but there is a friend’s list system. The friends list, just like the guild system, has a capacity
of 10 people which gets very annoying.

Atu'los

Atulos Online is a Free Medieval MMORPG, in the classic Isometric style. The game has 8 character classes to choose from. The story unfolds as a confrontation with Sorcerer Atulos draws ever closer.

The Story of Atu'los

In the Ancient times, a fearsome ruler in the line of Arkahron ruled with an Iron Fist. This ruler was called Atu'los, because in the Ancient tongue this meant that he was both wise and evil. Atu'los used his wisdom to study the dark arts, a gift that according to legend, was sometimes found in the lineage of Arkahron. Atu'los awoke many great and terrible forces, and became more powerful than any other that has lived. Atu'los conquered all the lands of the Ancient world, and ruled them for many years. But Atu'los was not immortal. During a war with a band of mountain dwelling rebels, Atu'los was struck in the neck by an arrow. Nearing death Atu'los retreated to his castle. There Atu'los died and was placed in a burial chamber that became enchanted by powers still unknown. Over the centuries the region was named after its ancient ruler ... Atu'los.

Anarchy Online

Anarchy Online is a science fiction themed massive multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG). The first three expansion packs, Notum Wars, Shadowlands and Alien Invasion, have received high praise and won 20 international awards.

========================================================

The Notum Wars

There was a time when most of the universe left Rubi-Ka to itself. "It's just a barren rock, a mining colony on the other side of space," people would say. Those times are over...

Rubi-Ka is the only known source of notum, an element that holds the key to technology and progress. The galactic economy is defined by notum, and whoever controls the notum has acquired a solid foundation for ultimate power.

Controllers: The Key to Land Ownership and Notum Benefits

When we call the controllers the key, that is the basic truth and not only an analogy. Before you can do anything to an area you have found, and want to control, you need to unlock it - build your controller.

The controllers do not come in many versions like the Land Control Personal Towers. (These I will consider in later articles.) Their principal feature is really their Quality Level (QL). The QL of the controller is the definition of the controller. Let me briefly explain:

  1. The QL (of course) defines how many hit-points the controller has, and the extent of its defence.

  2. The QL defines what type of controller it is, and if you may actually own it.

  3. The QL defines in which area the controller may be placed.

  4. The QL defines how many quality levels of organisation advantages you may have.

  5. The QL defines who may attack them.

  6. The QL of the controller defines what QL Shield Disabler you must use to attack it.

Let me go through all of these one by one and explain them. It might seem overly complicated, but let me assure you that these rules are there to make it more enjoyable, not less. Many of the rules are there to let all player levels interact with Land Control (LC), not only the highest levels. Also, we have worked hard with avoiding the so-called griefing problems. Anyways - the QL and:

1) The QL defines how many hit-points the controller has, and the extent of its defence.

The controllers have about ten times as many hit-points as the normal guard or defence tower. There's only one of these babies in the whole area, and you want to keep it alive as long as possible. The controller's health at the maximum QL (300) can be several million hit-points. All your organisation's towers are instantly destroyed when the controller's destroyed. To avoid having people run straight through the rain of fire from the towers and only go for the controller, the controller's health will be boosted with a factor per additional tower in the LC area. In addition to that, the controller actually gains: a) A damage shield per tower and b) Higher health regeneration abilities. Thus, if you think you can attack the tower directly, without considering the surrounding towers, you are in for a nasty surprise. The maximum number of towers in an area is at the moment defined as 100. This may change, but it does force the attackers to do an indirect route to the controller, trying to take out as many support towers as possible first. (Especially since you get a 5 point reflect shield PER tower on the controller. 500 points of reflect damage is nasty.)

2) The QL defines what type of controller it is, and if you may actually own it.

Right now we have something we call ‘controller Type’ set in each controller. This is a sort of method to spread any particular organisation's focus through many quality levels. Even though you can have (today, we may change / tweak this!) five controllers per organisation, you cannot have more than one from each controller Type. This disables the organisation from having five controllers of QL 300. Instead they will have to spread it out to one at 300, one at 270, one at 240, and so on. This will force organisations to be more focused in where they build their controllers.

3) The QL defines in which are it may be placed.

No towers or controllers can be placed in an area outside the level range of that area. Every area in AO has always had a level range. This has been decisive in defining which monsters are created in the area and what auto content dungeons are assigned to what entrances. This level range will now become visible to everyone. It will be listed in the map view (the small map view will be visible in the big map window as well, btw). This level range defines what QL controller you can build there. So, no QL 300 controllers outside the newbie areas! These should be accessible to the lower level characters. This also ties in with point 5 below.

4) The QL defines how many quality levels of organisation advantages you may have.

Right now, for every area your organisation controls, you may add two organisation advantages (An organisation advantage is a skill bonus that stacks with any current skill bonus, and that is given to all organisation members!). The QL of the advantages you add cannot exceed the combined quality level of all your advantages. Let us examine an example: If your organisation has 2 controllers, one is QL 100, and one is QL 200. Then the maximum QL of any advantage your organisation adds cannot exceed 300 (300 is the maximum QL of an advantage). You can only add one advantage for each skill, but your organisation could - in theory - have 10 active advantages (in the case where the organisation owns five controllers). Oh, yeah, while I am on the topic of possibilities - let's talk quickly about the advantages:

The advantages use a new, special system that gives you skill improvements based on your level as compared with a character at level 200. Let me give you an example: A QL 100 advantage "buffs" health with 1000 points at level 200. Now, this advantage will give you 500 hits on level 100 and 505 on level 101 etc, etc. Now if the advantage buffing health was QL 300, it might buff health 5000 at level 200. This means that for each level you gained while a member of the organisation with the advantage, you would receive 25 additional hit-points! One note with this, though, only one advantage will buff any given skill. You cannot, for example add a QL 105 hit-point advantage and a QL 150 hit-point advantage. In that case, only the QL 150 hit-point advantage would be in effect. You will get feedback for all of these issues in the game, so hopefully you will be able to sort all the details out there as well...

5) The QL defines who may attack them.

Basically the PvP rules governing inter-player interaction are applied to the towers and controllers. This means that we limit the level of the player who can attack any given tower, specifically to prevent griefing, but also to unlock some play-areas especially for lower levels. This means that a level 200 character cannot attack the QL 15 tower you just put up. Only a level 22-23 can do that. You can of course attack any tower that is higher than your level, but then again, "/terminate" is quicker :p

6) The QL of the controller defines what QL Shield Disabler you must use to attack it.

The shield disabler is a new concept. Basically it is there to make attacking a controller an expensive manoeuvre. Think about it. Every time someone attacks your area (yeah, btw, a lot happens when you attack a tower! I will go through that later in this article!), you basically get told in chat. There is a special chat channel that receives this input - like "Tower here or there attacked by this or that name in any organisation." This could be a welcome pass-time for griefers. Wandering through the land they see an area prone for attack - with its suppression gas conveniently down. Throwing out a pot-shot at a tower, they quickly move outside attack range and watch the defenders spill out of the grid point. This is funny, of course, for the griefers. No investment, no risk, just pure grief. Besides, it would quickly lead to people stop defending their areas, and arbitrary losses of control as a consequence. Result = boring game-play.

The Shield Disabler is basically an item that any person who wants to attack an area has to use in that area. It makes you able to attack! It also should cost enough that it is something you only use when you really want to launch an attack on the controller. This shield disabler increases in price with QL, naturally, and must have at least the QL of the controller to make it work. Hopefully this will force people not to throw shots left, right and centre just to annoy others.

Consequences of attacking the controllers and towers.

Yeah, btw, let me tell you about the consequences of attacking an area controlled by someone else. If you are in an organisation with your own towers, these will enter a state of war! This means that they will instantly be attackable by anyone else on the other sides, or even within their own side - if that is what you tried yourselves! Well, this means that attacking someone is an investment that needs to be carefully considered. Now, if you are not in an organisation with towers, or outside an organisation altogether, you will be flagged with a PvP flag for 4 - yeah that's right, FOUR - hours! This means that anyone on the other side can attack you, no matter where you are. (You can hide in a Yalm 400 meters into the air, in the Grid or in your soloable mission dungeon! :p Get to love them :p) The name of the attacker will be flagged with a double "**" on each side. That sign actually says - "I'm a sitting duck". Anyone being attacked as PvP flagged can of course defend themselves...

Well, I think that covers the basics - and some of the advanced aspects of the controller interaction...

The ultimate sci-fi MMORPG is about to get even better as a hostile alien race invades Rubi-Ka. When a massive call to arms is sounded across the planet, tensions mount, allegiances are put to the test and the threat of all-out war looms. Join the rally against the aliens...for the galaxy, for Rubi-Ka, for humanity... prepare for the last stand.

The main reason for joining an organization in Alien Invasion is gaining access and contributing to the construction of a player city. Funds allocated to the effort by org members are used to construct these cities on a chosen plot of land somewhere on Rubi-Ka's heavily contested expanses. These cities can be customized in many different ways, with your only real limitation being how many credits lie in your org's coffers.

The cities are remarkably attractive, with towering spires and sleek architecture, a marvel on par with the constructive minds behind the standby cities of Rome and Omni-Entertainment.

These player cities are built around a city controller (a central hub, so to speak), but aside from this building, you have free reign as to the addition of such structures as player shops, domiciles, cloaking towers, bars, and swimming pools. As of this review, the player shops weren't working, but in the future, it's planned that players will be able to hawk their wares through convenient terminals, instead of spamming chat channels for hours on end.

Online Golf Games Hit the Mark

Online Golf Games Hit the Mark
by: Chris Robertson

Since the inception of the World Wide Web, online games have been popular. Enthusiasts have embraced everything from online gambling to the Sims and have spent hours playing games either alone or in virtual communities. Sports enthusiasts have carved out their own niche on the Web, with fantasy football and baseball leagues and all types of sports-related online games.

More recently, online golf games have risen in popularity. This could be due to the fact that general interest in the game has risen recently. Although phenom Tiger Woods may not make headline news as he did a few years back, Michelle Wie has taken his place while re-energizing professional golf. The six-foot tall 16-year-old, a native of Hawaii, made news when she turned pro in 2005, then again when she narrowly missed the cut against the men in the Casio World Open.

The beauty of golf is that you don't have to be a pro to enjoy the game. Walking the course, hitting buckets of balls on the driving range, and practicing on the putting green is just as satisfying as playing a round.

When the weather turns inclement, it doesn't mean that you can't roam the course and play eighteen holes from the comfort of your own home. Free online golf games are available at a number of websites, and have a number of features in common. Most free golf games allow you to play at the amateur or professional level (the difference often being how you use the mouse to control your swing), and offer you the choice to play alone or play with a group. Many online games allow you to create a private group so that you can play with friends, family, or duffers you've met online. You can also join a group of online players and make new friends in the process.

Online golf games generally offer you the opportunity to chat in real time with other players and to play in live online golf tournaments. Some even give away cash and prizes to players who do well.

Online Gambling - The Games

Online Gambling - The Games
by: Kenneth Bateman

Online casinos offer a multitude of gambling game options designed to appeal to the adventurous or the conservative player. The following is an overview of some of the more popular online games, both multi-player and single player, and is not intended to be a tutorial. There are countless books and online sites detailing game rules, strategies, etc., and it is suggested the player take advantage of these before attempting to play for money.

Poker

Poker entails examining your hand and guessing what your opponents have. In poker you are playing against other players, and not against the house. Among the most popular poker games to play online are:

- Texas Hold ‘Em (by far the most popular)
- Omaha
- Seven Card Stud
- Caribbean Poker
- Pineapple

Video Poker

Played against the casino’s software and not against other players.

- Jacks or Better (most popular)
- Deuces Wild
- Joker’s Wild

Blackjack

Also known as “twenty-one” as the cumulative total of the face value of the cards cannot exceed twenty one to win. Face cards are valued at ten and aces at one or eleven at the players option. Blackjack is played against the house, and not other players.

Roulette

A small, marble-like ball is placed into a spinning wheel that has red and black numbered slots. Bets are based upon which slot the ball will land when the wheel stops spinning. Among the many sub-categories of betting on roulette are: betting on which color the ball will land, betting on any one of the three columns on the roulette table, or betting on a specific set of twelve numbers.

Craps

Literally thousands of betting options. Shooter must roll a seven or eleven on the come-out, or first roll to win or establish a point. The shooter is a winner if point is made on follow up rolls. If a seven is rolled before point is made, the shooter loses. A two, three or twelve is an automatic loser on the come-out roll.

Baccarat

The total value of two dealt cards must not exceed nine. The hand with the total value closest to nine wins. Low house edge is of advantage to the player.

Video

Eleven balls are drawn from a pool of thirty. Bingo!

Keno

As you would expect, games of pure chance, with no skills required by the player offer terrible odds. Keno is one of those games, and is really the casino version of a lottery draw. In Keno a computer randomly selects numbers from a group of eighty and the player must guess which group will be chosen.

Slots

Slots are the most popular of the no skills required online casino games, and is a veritable cash cow for the casinos, with the odds firmly stacked in favor of the house. Slots are composed of spinning reels with an assortment of symbols on each reel. The slot machine’s reels are lined up on what is known as a payline. The right combination of symbols must be aligned with the payline in order to win. If the symbols are not aligned in a winning combination, you lose.

The Appeal Of Free Online Games...

The Appeal Of Free Online Games...
by: Jonathan White

Why do we all play these games? What is the formula for the simple yet wildly addictive gameplay of these little Flash programs? Why is it that we find the time passing so quickly? We know they are simple, we know that we probably have better designs floating around on our hard drives, yet for some reason, we all come back to the tried and tested Flash game. What could that reason be?

Convenience? One of the main upsides to flash games is that you can pick up and play whenever you want, there is no preparation needed, no decisions to be made. You play when you want, for how long you want, you can pause the game if needed and quickly alt-tab when your teacher or boss comes over.

Simplicity? The easy controls and simple graphics mean that even people unaccustomed to the Internet or gaming can enjoy a little play on Flash games. Old or young, the designs are made to deliver gameplay without fluff, so it's easy to get something out of it.

Arcade-Style Competition? You are always playing against a score, you can always better yourself and rank higher than before. Everyone wants his or her name on the leader board. This is like the feel of an arcade, where the ultimate prize is your name being on top for all to see. In some countries, arcades are very competitive, and Flash games to a point bring this competition to everybody.

Infinite? Because of the nature of Flash games, you can never 'complete' most of them. In a normal game, when you slay the dragon, or finish the last level, you win. In a Flash game, your goals are only set by yourself, and once you achieve them, you can always set a higher one.

Calming? Lots of games can actually be very stressful. Games cause people to throw controllers, roar at screens and generally make a fool of themselves. Most Flash games feel a lot more 'fun' and 'casual' due to the nature of knowing you can get back to where you were fairly easily.

Cross-Platform? It doesn't matter if you use Windows, MacOS, Linux or any other web-ready operating system. Flash games are easily accessible to everybody, no matter where you are. You can even play them on some modern cellphones and handhelds. This allows users on different platforms to directly compete in a field, something rare in modern OS-specific gaming.

Nostalgia? Many Flash games are clones of Arcade favorites, from Breakout to Space Invaders to Asteroids. This allows us to identify better with them, as they are 'blasts from the past', we feel that we are somewhat re-living our past with these little gems. As proven by the constant success of arcade bundles and arcade ports, nostalgia is a powerful factor in the industry.

These are all fairly obvious reasons why Flash games are appreciated, along with the ease of finding them, and of course, the point that they are FREE. Man has, since the beginning of time, always enjoyed getting something for nothing. It is in our nature to attempt to make this 'profit'. By playing a free game, we know that if we don't enjoy it, we don't lose out on anything, we can simply move on and try another one.

It is this experimentation which allows people to find a game that they really enjoy. The huge variety of online Flash games, combined with the fact that there is no financial or large time investment means that there really is an enjoyable experience to be found for everybody, and more importantly, that people are inclined to find this enjoyable experience.

Massively Multiplayer Online Games

Massively Multiplayer Online Games
by: Jonathon Hardcastle

The most important aspect of a game that inspires more gamers to play it is the amount of challenge it provides. The best way of making a game more challenging is to make it multiplayer. Because Artificial Intelligence in computer games has not reached a point yet where it can predict every kind of move you make and also every kind of player, they are easy to beat once you understand the patterns they follow. In multiplayer games however, you get to play with and against other gamers, and each time you play someone new you face a new kind of challenge. Owing to this fact, the game developers came up with a new category of games. This category is Massively Multiplayer Online Game or MMOG and enables thousands of players to join and play the game simultaneously via the internet.

There are some MMOG's these days that have servers all around the globe connected to each other, enabling gamers to interact and play each other from every corner of the globe. Most MMOG's create a persistent universe where the game goes on whether any player is online or not. Since however, it stresses on multiplayer gameplay, they usually have Artificial Intelligence, to allow the game to be played in single player mode and people do not leave if there is no other person online.

Unlike single player games MMOG's do not have an end point in the game. They are modeled in a way that the game goes on and the characters within it develop like real life. Only a few MMOG's have a winning condition that too based on the standings of the players after due time the game has been played.

MMOG's are able to support thousands of players online simultaneously. Because of the diversity of gamers playing these games from around the globe and the amount of detail the game developers put into these games, they are very challenging and filled with endless new experiences. Some MMOG's allow clans to be formed, so people can form their own groups of gamers and compete with other groups. This makes the game even more challenging as each clan tried to overpower the other clans.

MMOG's are most suitable for gamers with loads of free time as they are quite addictive and time consuming. However, for any gamer who appreciates game details and quality, MMOG'S are heavenly.

World of Warcraft Review

World of Warcraft Review
by: Ruibo Chen

World of Warcraft is by far the best and largest MMORPG out yet. World of Warcraft follows a long history of the original strategy game warcraft. There were 3 popular titles that was released previously that was also an extremely big hit. Warcraft, Warcraft II, Warcraft III and the 2 expansions "The Frozen Throne" and "Reign of Chaos". The release date of the game was on Nov 23, 2004. A year after its release and there are about 4.5 million subscribers and still growing stronger each day world wide.

World of Warcraft takes you to a 3D environment in the World of Azeroth. The World is the largest virtual environment ever created. You can explor through deserts, forests, mountains and more. It may take months before you can finish traveling through all of Azeroth. There are of course mounts such as horses, gryphons and other animals that can help you travel through Azeroth.

Along with the great 3D environment you can able to customize your characters looks in the highest of detail ever possibly invented. There are next to an infinite combination of faces, eyes, texture, size, weight, coloring to choose from. Unlike many other MMORPGs, you're bound to find a twin here and there but the possibilities has gone unlimited with Blizzards character creation.

World of Warcraft consists of 2 fueding realms, the Alliance and the Horde. Each realm may choose from 4 different races. Alliance members may choose Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, and Gnomes while Horde members may choose Orc, Tauren, Troll and Undead. Along with the 8 races there are also 9 classes that you may choose from which are the Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock and Warrior. Each player also has the ability to choose a profession for their character. A profession is very helpful to the players as it may help them create great armors, weapons, items and other equipments. A player may choose 2 primary professions and as many secondary professions as they like.

Blizzard has been updating World of Warcraft much more than their previous games that required connection to Battle.net. Quests, items, fixes and other great enhances are being added or changed to improve gameplay. Unlike other MMORPGs, the quests of WoW are made to help leveling and is much pleasurable. It is not as repetitive as you are required to kill the same monsters and the constant travelling back and forth to speak to a dozen NPCs.

Like most and all MMORPGs, WoW has their own game economy and ingame shop/auction house. Their currency is based on copper, silver and gold. World of Warcraft gold is most commonly used to purchase weapons, armors, items, skills, spells and travelling. While selling back items to a NPC shop is easy, the returns are unfavorable. Majority of the players would sell off their unwanted items to other players at a highest rate than what the NPCs will offer.

PvP has been by far the most thrilling theme of most MMORPGs. World of Warcraft includes PvP servers and non PvP servers. As Blizzard continues to update the game, their most recent patch included the battle grounds. A zone where the Horde and Alliance comes together and competes. The winner will receive special rewards and methods of increasing their overall character status.

Blizzard has taken ideas from many different games and combined it all into 1. It has yet been by far the most successful MMORPG to this day and still growing rapidly. With a subscriber base of 4.5 million players world wide, I'm sure the game will continue to be popular for over a decade. If you are interested in playing World of Warcraft or already a player and would like more information on game play visit http://wow.tumeroks.com.

Power Leveling Guide

World of Warcraft Power Leveling Guide
by: Steven Golden

This is the method the power levelers have used since closed beta and I finally got one of them to give it up. It is by no means the way to go if you want to maximize your experience in the game as this method will bypass almost all the content in the game and essentially ignore many of the fun, unique aspects of WoW. This is not recommended for new players and is meant for players who already have experienced the content and just want to level up an alt to play with their level 60 friends (ie. your level 60 instance group needs a priest and there are no priests to be had). As a benchmark to how successful you are with this, download cosmos (Cosmos) and use the clock feature to measure your xp/hour. At level 50 you should be getting about 40,000+/hour.

1-20: Newbie lands, stick to the friendly zones (not contested). Just grind. The quests are a waste of time up to level 20 if you are focusing on maxing out xp per hour. 20-26: Wetlands quests and raptors/slime/orcs for grinding. Redridge mountain Lakeshire quests.

26-30: Duskwood quests and undead for grinding. Hillsbrad critter roamers for grinding.

30-35: Did these all in a day on Daggerspines in Hillsbrad right next to Southshore along the coast. Huge spawn, very fast respawn rate, easy mobs to kill. Purgation isle (island in the very far Southwest water area of Hillsbrad) also a nice secluded place you can grind on undead.

36-40: Hillsbrad southshore quests. Desolace quests and kodo grinding for 36-38, then Undead Ravagers in the southeast for 38-40. Cresting exiles at the circle of outer binding in Arathi also for 37-41; extremely easy mobs with a fast respawn. Alterac ogres from 35-40 for grinding. Drywhisker kobolds in Arathi east of Hammerfall for 36-39 for grinding.

41-45: Hinterlands trolls, owl beasts, and wolves for grinding and quests. Badlands ogres, gnolls, and quests.

45-48: Tanaris quests and pirates on the eastern paninsula for grinding. Stranglethorn vale quests (only if you need rewards imo). Badlands greater elementals for grinding.

48-52: Felwood deadwood gnolls for grinding and quests from the sanctuary in the south. Blasted lands dreadmauls for grinding. Un'goro crater (best started at 50) for primarily quests and grinding off the plants and tar elementals. Azshara undead highbornes and thunderhead hyppogriffs for grinding.

52-55: Azshara blood elves for grinding. Burning steppes dreadmaul rock ogre caves firegut ogres (very low AC) for grinding. Felwood irontree woods and cave for grinding (great spot). Western plaguelands questing for argent dawn and grinding on undead throughout the various camps.

55-58: Eastern plaguelands quests from the sanctuary, grinding on undead at the ruined towns. Winterspring grinding at winterfall village or Lake Kel'Theril undead highbornes (my personal favorite camp). Blackrock Stronghold in Burning Steppes for grinding.

58-60: "The" yeti cave in Winterspring, due Southeast of Everlook (very nice place). Grosh Gok compound ogres in Deadwind pass (great spot, no one knows about it). Eastern plaguelands Fungal Vale undead grinding and argent dawn token farming. Moonowls in northeast winterspring for grinding.
